The birth of American beekeeping can be traced directly to the Mohawk Valley surrounding Sharon Springs. In the 1800s Moses Quimby invented the smoking can still used today, and his honey would have been stocked on the shelves of William Beekman's original Mercantile. All of our creamed honeys are whipped, to make them easily spreadable with a knife.
Today, Beekman 1802 Farm is home to over 40 beehives, producing about 15,000lbs of honey a year. We harvest twice a year, and our pure raw Spring Honey is made from the bees' feast of clover and alfalfa blossoms. It takes 648 bees working a full season to produce each 9 oz jar of sweet goodness. The Beekman bees think it's all worth it (and so do we.)
