William Beekman was the original Mercantilist in Sharon Springs, and he would work late into the night on the business ledgers, dipping his pen in and out of the ink pot. His youngest daughter would often find her dad in the morning slumped over and asleep right there at his desk, and she’d pick a flower and put it in the pot so it would be the first thing to see when he opened his eyes.
