The Beekman 1802 pierced tin lanterns are the same sort that William Beekman and men of his station would have used in their homes and establishments in the early 1800s. Each lantern is created by our tinsmith Michael Houser by first punching the design into flat pieces of tin and then rolling them into the lantern shape. Piercing the design from the inside out creates a raised edge around the outer surface that baffles wind and rain and keeps the inner flame burning during all sorts of weather conditions.
In a darkened atmosphere, the punched design becomes very distinct and casts a beautiful pattern on a nearby wall or ceiling.
Made of tinplate, which is a thin sheet of iron or steel coated with tin, to inhibit corrosion.
Interior holds a 6" tall or less tapered candle.
