Beekman 1802 "Mortgage Lifter" sauces contains real heirloom tomatoes. Why "Mortgage Lifter?" Well, that's the name of an heirloom tomato variety bred in the 1930's by a gardener named Marshall Cletis Byles who sold enough of his prize seedlings to pay off his mortgage. Over eighty years later, we decided to develop a line of products that would help other struggling American small farms pay off their debts.
Our Garden Style sauce uses fresh garlic, summer squash, carrots, peppers, mushrooms, onions and other fresh herbs, along with vine-ripened tomatoes. We know you won't find a fresher tasting sauce anywhere...even if it does use a tomato variety from the 1930's.
